Nominations declared for 2nd Edition of the Sahara India Sports Awards


Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri K. Sankaranarayanan will grace the occasion

Mumbai, October 29, 2010: ‘SAHARA INDIA SPORTS AWARDS’ the biggest and the most comprehensive sporting awards extravaganza in India, today declared the list of nominations for this year’s awards. The nominees are short listed by 400 members of Sports Journalist Federation of India (SJFI) from across the nation through secret ballets. The final awardees will be selected by the eminent jury of 14 sporting legends led by Sunil Gavaskar and will be felicitated in the grand award Ceremony tomorrow evening, i.e. 30th October, 2010
The Nominations of Sahara India Sports Awards 2010 are:

By standards, the process is the most extensive and brings the rich insight of the experienced sports journalists from across the nation suggesting the nominations. With this process, the eminent jury of the sporting legends from various fields led by Mr. Sunil Gavaskar gets a most comprehensive nomination choice to select the awardees”.
In keeping with the very dynamic nature of sport and the performances of Indian sportspersons, a few Special Awards have been introduced this year to recognize the outstanding performance of Indian sportsperson at the Commonwealth Games, the largest sporting event held in India that spurred our sportspersons into pushing themselves into garnering glory for the nation does not go unrewarded or unrecognized. Under the Special Awards there are following categories - Outstanding Performance at Commonwealth Games (Male) and Outstanding Performance at Commonwealth Games (Female).
The Sahara India Sports Awards also have two special categories - the Legend Honour and the Unsung Hero Awards. The Legend Honour is given to the sportsperson who has excelled in his field to a degree that his feat and contribution to the sport deserves the place of a legend. The Unsung Hero Award, every year honors those sportsmen whose achievements and feats have slipped into oblivion with time and require recognition and support.
The selection has been tabulated by Ernst & Young who is auditing and monitoring the entire selection process.

Sahara Hospital Collaborates with Roentgen Oncologic Solutions to set-up high end Radiation Oncology Center



Already offering Medical and Surgical Oncology, Sahara Hospital with the state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology Center will become the first total Cancer Care Center in the region

Lucknow, October 27, 2010: Sahara Hospital, the multi-disciplinary, super-speciality, Tertiary Care hospital, today, signed a Joint Collaboration Agreement with M/s Roentgen Oncologic Solutions to set up a state-of-the-art Radiation Oncology Center at the Hospital. Sahara Hospital’s Cancer Department which already has Medical and Surgical Oncology speciality, with the set up of the Radiation Oncology Center, will be able to provide a cost effective and complete range of treatments to Cancer patients at Lucknow for which they had to travel to cities like Mumbai or Delhi. ‘Sahara – Roentgen Radiation Oncology Center’, as the center will be called, will provide a complete array of latest radiation treatments to cancer patients including, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT), CT Simulation, Digital Portal Imaging and HDR Brachytherapy.
The center aims to provide the most comprehensive and advanced radiation oncology care to cancer patients by specially trained radiation oncologists that are skilled in a wide range of standard and emerging treatments and at the same time will ensure that quality and personalised care is given every patient. The experience of the medical team comprising of the trained specialists, will blend with the latest technology, resulting in better outcome for the patients.
The latest range of equipment at the Sahara – Roentgen Radiation Oncology Center together with the techniques adopted by specialists to treat tumors with pinpoint accuracy, will eliminate most of the side effects that accompany radiation treatment, thereby, ensuring that tumors get the most effective dose while healthy tissues and organs are spared. The equipment that will be installed in the center will include a dual energy linear accelerator that yields treatment times that are shorter, making the overall experience of the patient more comfortable and relaxed. The precision will allow the specialists to spare healthy tissues, to an extent that was unimaginable only a few years ago. In addition, high dose rate brachytherapy shall provide conformal radiotherapy for gynecological cancers, and cancers of breast, esophagus, bronchus, nasopharynx, etc.

2nd Edition of the Coveted Sahara India Sports Awards announced



One-of-its-kind multi disciplines Sports Award function will be held on 30th October 2010 in Mumbai
Sports Journalist Federation of India (SJFI) nominated the Sporting talent of the year for the Awards while 14 sporting legends comprising of the jury led by Sunil Gavaskar will select awardees.


Lucknow, October 23, 2010: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate and the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, after the resounding success last year announces ‘SAHARA INDIA SPORTS AWARDS’ for 2010. Sahara India Pariwar has developed the Awards, with an intention to bring together all sports, including those which are very popular and also those which are not so popular, together on a common platform to recognize and honour the achievements of Indian sportspersons who have taken the pride of the nation to the highest level and kept the tricolor flying high. These awards will also provide a forum for encouragement to young sporting talents and motivate them to bring laurels to the nation and sports.
The awardees of this coveted trophy are selected through an extensive 2 tier selection process, under which at first level, the 400 members of Sports Journalist Federation of India (SJFI) from across the nation, nominated sportspersons from different sections of sports in different categories.
From the short listed names drawn by through the SJFI nominations, the final awardees under respective will be selected by a 14 person sports jury constituting of living legends from different sports discipline like Cricket, Billiards, Tennis, Golf, Squash, Hockey, Athletics, Boxing, Badminton, Football, Chess, Table Tennis etc. The jury panel will be led by cricketing legend Mr. Sunil Gavaskar as the Chairman of the jury. The entire selection process will be audited and monitored by Ernst & Young.
